I even helped my boyfriend at the time to buy a ¨Bergerie"(a sheepfold) with a view on the Alpilles. Many artists were inspired by the Alpilles, including Vincent van Gogh, Charles Gounod, and Jean Cocteau. The Alpilles' light, rolling countryside, and cypress trees inspired their work. His View of the Alpilles (1890) and Champs près des Alpilles (1889) are examples of van Gogh´s paintings inspired by the Alpilles.
